Some time ago we carried news of UK-based tuning company Merdad announcing plans to build a coupe version of the Porsche Cayenne. At the time we were skeptical, but it looks like they’ve actually gone ahead and done it, for they’ve released pictures of this, the Merdad 902 Coupe.
Apart from having two fewer doors, the Type 958 Cayenne Turbo on which the car is based is given a widebody kit and 22-inch forged wheels with high-performance tyres. The interior gets four bucket seats from German specialists Mattes Interieurtechnik, and are dressed in red and black Alcantara and leather.
The 4.8 litre twin-turbo V8 is boosted to 670 hp – a 170 hp increase – which, the company claims, allows a century sprint time of 4.4 seconds and a max speed in excess of 300 km/h.
Merdad says that this project aims to resurrect the English tradition of coachbuilding, now largely vanished. It cites legendary firms such as Tickford, Park Ward and Hooper as inspiration sources. The price for all this? A cool £395,000 (RM1.9 million).
